Contemporary Self-Build Home
Constructed Around Existing Swimming Pool
Where: Hampshire
Our clients had been looking for an opportunity to build their own home for their growing family. They chanced upon this relatively rural site that housed a former physiotherapy centre, with planning consent to replace it with a single storey dwelling. The approved scheme was not to their liking, so MWA developed their comprehensive brief, submitting a revised planning application.
The site came with a number of covenants limiting the floor area and overall height of the building. A bonus was that the pre-existing building incorporated an indoor pool, so the challenge was to retain the pool and construct their new home around it.
The Proposed Dwelling Adopts a contemporary approach. A Self-Build project with an emphasis on the importance of sustainability. The roof covered by man-made slate . External walls employing render and cedar cladding/. The use of materials and the shape of the building articulate the facades into well-proportional panels. Windows, skylights and door frames are made to measure in powder coated aluminium
The building has a relatively private entrance elevation opening up from a number of rooms to the pool, and substantial landscaped garden. In order to take best advantage of the limited height, the majority of the rooms have vaulted ceilings.
