FORMER GRAIN STORE, NOW A CONTEMPORARY HOME WITH FAR REACHING VIEWS
Where: Southern Downlands
Clients wished to remain on family farm in a location to take the best advantage of views across the Downs, and the former grain store, then redundant, provided the ideal opportunity for conversion to their new home. The building had to be a conversion rather than a completely new build, however the floor area was vast, and ‘warehouse like’, not altogether homely. The client’s requirement to have an upper floor for bedrooms led to the development of the central element of the former grain store which had been constructed by the owner’s father. In order to retain the structure and emphasise its original use, the frame was retained together with large areas of roof creating outdoor/indoor spaces within the overall footprint.
